Winning Debate Team Sep 28 2009

The Negating Team (Captained by ACB Conor, 2nd Speaker TM Parada, 3rd Speaker ACB Dr Veerapan) successfully disqualified the moot " This House believes that Hollywood actors are bad role models".

This Impromptu Debate run at an "Advanced Level", allows speakers from both teams to interject with Points of Interest.

Formal Debate - Affirming Team

The Affirming Team (Captain CC Conor, 2nd Speaker CC Thawesak, 3rd Speaker CC Kitsiri) closely observing the Speaker from the Negating Team. Each Speaker has 8 minutes, and must not only support their "Team Line", but also work with their fellow Team members to "rebutt" the case being made by the other Team.

District Governor Thanoo congratulates TM Korn, the 2nd Speaker of the Negating Team. who was selected by the Adjudicator and Judge as the Best Speaker in the Formal Debate.

Impromptu Debate #3 - August 31 2009


Money is the best way to solve problems - Another very close contest between 2 very lively teams, with a tie being announced by Adjudicator Greg after the 6 Speeches and 2 Rites of Reply.

The final result required a Deciding Speech (30 seconds only) from the Captains of the Affirming and Negating teams, with the Negating Team being declared the Winner, and their Captain of (ACB Conor) being awarded the Best Speaker medal.

Impromptu Debate - Best Speaker Medal - TM Parada



TM Parada, the 2nd speaker from the Affirming Team, won the Best Speaker Medal for the Impromptu Debate.

 

After 6 speeches, and 2 Rites of Reply, there was only 1 point (270-271) separating the Affirming and Negating Teams.

Impromptu Debate - August 17 2009


Right after the Toastmasters meeting last Monday evening, we practiced Impromptu Debating using the Moot: "People rely too much on Technology". The debate, comprising 2 teams of three speakers, was chaired by TM Graeme. 

The Affirming Team Leader was ATMS Sakol, supported by TM Prattana & TM Chalit. 

The Negating Team was headed by Guest Dennis from Singapore, supported by TM Chitphol & TM Parada. 

The Winners awards were announced by Guest Greg, who kindly donated the awards, and who provided guidance for the debate in the role of the Adjudicator

The Winner of the Team Trophy was the Negating Team lead by Guest Dennis.

 Greg says he started Competitive Debating in 2003 at High School in New Zealand as a way to overcome his personal fear of Public Speaking, and has now given over 300 speeches in the past 6 years.

On Monday evening (Aug 17) at Thai Airways Toastmasters Club Greg will present a 20 minute session outlining the rules and techniques of Debating that turn Public Speaking into a fun team sport. 

Immediately after the Toastmasters meeting there will be a chance to participate on an Impromptu Debate - all are welcome to join.
