Title: “Positive First Impression for Toastmasters”

Khun Petchpring explained the importance of the first impression for Toastmasters.

First impression comes from 3 things – Walk, Talk & Look.

  • Distance when people judge is 12 feet /steps (Walk),
  • 12 phases (Talk)
  • 12 inches (Look).

Look into the eyes of the person we meet, smile and hand shake while maintaining body straight.

She also demonstrated the posture of traditional Thai “Wai” in 3 levels:

  1. Forefinger tip at the nose (greeting friends)

  2. Forefinger tip at the forehead (greeting senior person)

  3. Thumb tip at the forehead (greeting monks or Buddha)

At the podium, before starting your speech

  • Look straight to the back of the roomat eye level, then to the front & the side.

  • Inhale & exhale 3 times to give oxygen to the brain. While doing inhale & exhale, think of infinity symbol ( ∞ ) or say something to yourself to make you feel relaxed.

Don’t eat too much before delivering speech, especially those spicy herbs.

People may forget what you said or spoke. They will remember your first impression. “No second chance to make good impression”
